Easter 2022 – Harry’s Letter

Dear Friends,

Phew! We made it to spring! Snow is melting, sap is running, robins are returning – and Easter is upon us. Some would say that the resurrection of Jesus is a myth which we perpetuate in order to give a religious spin to the cycle of nature in which the ‘death’ of winter gives way to the ‘life’ of spring. St. Paul, however, declares “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” 1 Cor. 15:20

Should we be all that surprised that the God of Resurrection, who created all things, would build hints of resurrection into the natural order? It’s not just spring. There are ‘tomb-like’ eggs cracking open to release new life (hence the Easter egg thing)! Chrysalises are chambers in which lowly caterpillars transform into majestic butterflies. What about the arrival of dawn after the dark night? Daily we all sleep and awaken again. It strikes me that God has given us many signs of hope in his creation and has capped it all off by raising Jesus from the dead.

All 3 of our churches will be open on Easter Sunday, April 17th – Ingoldsby for the first time this year! We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper at each church as well as with those who join us online. We will declare together the truth which has echoed through the ages: “Christ is risen indeed!” Hope you will join in.

In Christ’s love,

Harry
