The Haliburton Pastoral Charge is looking for a volunteer website coordinator for two websites: haliburtonpastoralcharge.com (Haliburton Pastoral Charge) and haliburtonuc.com (Haliburton United Church), currently hosted through WordPress.com.

This is an ideal position with a very manageable workload for retirees, hobbyists and students who are interested in basic website management, including content writing and editing. Students also gain community service hours and a valuable addition to their resumes.

Description:

• The volunteer provides online news about the Pastoral Charge and the church to help support growth and community outreach
• Most content is duplicated between the two websites
• The volunteer works with the Minister and the Administrative Assistant
• Communication with the public is not required
• Hours vary; the current estimate is 1-2 hours per week in total for regular tasks, while tasks such as new or redesigned pages may be spread over more than one week
• Fully remote – the volunteer will work offsite with their own device
• This position is eligible for secondary school community service hours

Responsibilities:

• Write and edit content to update each site as needed, including events and home pages
• Create and retire pages as needed
• Recommend any changes that may be needed (content, functionality, design)

Requirements:

• Basic writing, editing and website management skills
• Experience with WordPress or a similar program. Training in website management will not be provided;
• The volunteer may propose moving the websites to a different self-management platform
• Basic graphic design skills would be helpful in providing visual interest to encourage readership
