Advent 2020

Dear Friends,

It’s not a stretch to say these are times of uncertainty. As I write this, on the day after the American election, we don’t yet know who the president will be. We don’t know when Covid restrictions will be lifted. We don’t know if we’ll be with our family at Christmas.

In the midst of all this shifting sand the good news of Jesus is our solid rock. God does not change. His love never wavers. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” Hebrews 13:8.   This is a great comfort because we are vulnerable and somewhat timid creatures. To know we have a Saviour and Shepherd who is absolutely reliable, faithful and consistent gives us a profound and wonderful peace.

Advent reminds us that God loved us so much “he gave his only Son” Jn. 3:16. The Son “became flesh and dwelt among us” Jn. 1:14. One of his many names is “Immanuel – which means, ‘God with us’” Matt. 1:23. Jesus is constantly with us as we navigate through these troubled times. He consoles, strengthens and directs us.

Jesus promises to be with us as we gather both physically and virtually to celebrate His Supper on the first Sunday in Advent, November 29th. You are invited to prepare some elements at home or to use the individual packages at church. Either way, I hope to ‘see’ you then.

In Christ’s love,

Harry
